20 years in the making: Habring Doppel 2.0
The Habring Doppel 2.0 is a reinterpreted double chronograph in a future-oriented design by Austrian watchmakers Maria and Richard Habring.
This double chronograph features an innovative cam, and lever design split-seconds movement patented by IWC while Richard Habring was working with them. Now that the patent has expired, Maria and Richard are using the exact same concept in the new watch, the Doppel 2.0.
One of the design's special features is the omission of the traditional column wheel, which is not only complicated to produce but also requires complex adjustment in conjunction with a split-seconds function.
The Doppel 2.0 runs on an in-house Habring2 Calibre A08MR movement which is manual winding, with 23 jewels and a 48 hour power reserve. Accurate chronometer measurement and superior reliability are the result of Habring’s small-scale manufacturing and assembly.
The watch has a polished stainless steel 42mm case, with some really attractive looking galvanised blue, grey, and brown dials, with complimentary silver digits and rhodium Arabic numerals. All numbers and hour indexes have been treated with Superluminova for legibility even in the dark.
In addition, the thread hour, and minute hands are polished Rhodium with Superluminova, and the chronograph seconds, and split seconds have a matte lacquer on them.
The first development of a separately stoppable seconds hand in 1831, was by fellow Austrian Joseph Thaddäus Winnerl (1799 – 1886) whilst searching for the first watch that could measure intervals of time. While it was left to other great watchmakers to refine what we know today as the chronograph, it was Winnerl who laid the foundations for a more complicated chronograph; the chrono rattrapante or double (or split-seconds) chronograph.
With the intricate technology developed by Richard Habring over the course of 20 years, Habring plan to issue not its usual consignment of just 12 watches a year, but 20 of this particular model. However, with such quality and invention in-built, into this stunning watch it will still be unattainable to most.
The Doppel 2.0 is available exclusively in a 42 mm diameter stainless steel case at a price of €6,000.00. For enquries call +43-4232-51300 or visit www.habring.com
