On Tuesday July 3rd, Frenchman Franck Cammas, sponsored all the way by Sowind Group owned watch brand JeanRichard since the launch of the Volvo Ocean Race on October 29th 2011, finished second on leg nine to confirm overall victory, giving France only their second win in the 39-year history of the offshore race.
And Lionel Péan, who won for France in 1985/6, led the praise for Cammas, 39, with an open letter to Cammas toasting his crew’s win on their debut in the race, and succeeding Brazilian Torben Grael, who won in 2008/09 with the Swedish yacht Ericsson.

Franck Cammas and his team, including New Zealanders Peter Blake, Grant Dalton and Mike Sanderson, the American Paul Cayard and the Brazilian Torben Grael sailing in Groupama 4 celebrated in Galway Ireland when the were certain unassailable victory had been secured.

On Franck Cammas’ wrist during the Volvo Ocean Race was the Jean Richard Aquascope. In a message to Franck Cammas Jean Richard General Manager Massimo Macaluso said “Congratulations and thank you Franck! On behalf of the entire JeanRichard team I want to congratulate you for this beautiful victory, and for all the unforgettable tense moment we have lived by your side.”
