More than just a pilot’s watch: Breguet Type XXII in rose gold

Breguet are getting their Baselworld ducks in a row, and have recently released a new version of their impeccable pilot’s watch, the venerated Type XXII – in 18ct rose gold, highlighting the beauty of what is a unique timepiece.

The new Type XXII 3880 claims to have "exceptional" regulating power with a doubly precise start function and readout, thanks to a chronograph movement that boasts a frequency of 72,000 vibrations per hour. This endows the movement with exceptional regulating power, its chronograph seconds hand at 9 o’clock manages a complete rotation in 30 seconds.

In classic 18K rose gold casing with a bi-rotational bezel, the self-winding Type XXII chronograph also houses a flyback function with a totaliser that returns to zero and instantly restarts in the same operation. The start function and readout are thus twice as precise.

The use of silicon has resulted in more lightweight mobile components and the avoidance of the lubrication problems generated by high frequencies.
The dial includes a second time-zone indicator along with a small aperture for a date calendar. A two-position screw-down crown resets the second time-zone indicator by moving the hour hand at centre without affecting the minute hand. With the crown in that position, the date calendar obeys the time of the main time-zone displayed at centre.

A 24-hour night-and-day indicator at 3 o’clock indicates daytime or night time in the area covered by the second time-zone.

The 44mm chronograph’s brown dial contrasts crisply with the flyback indications in red. The new Breguet Type XXII comes on an integrated brown leather strap.

Individually signed and numbered, the watch is water resistant water resistant up to 100 metres. With a 40-hour power reserve, it’s destined to become another Breguet grail edition.
