It’s awards time once again in Tinseltown, and just a couple of weeks before the Oscars, the 55th Annual Grammy Awards will take place this coming Sunday at the Staples Center in Los Angeles.
Gucci Timepieces & Jewelry have been selected for the third year in a row as the watch of the Awards. They will release a new, Grammy-branded wristwatch to coincide with the Oscars of the music industry.
In 2010, Gucci launched its Grammy Special Edition watch collection as part of a three-year partnership with The Recording Academy, organisers of the Grammys.
The latest edition to the collection offers a variation on Gucci’s interlocking “Double G” motif, which is incorporated into the bezel. The hallmark of this special-edition model is the bold black leather cuff that embraces the wrist, adding an urban allure to the timepiece. The cuff features the Gucci logo and a gramophone pin – the iconic symbol of The Recording Academy®. The case back is also engraved with the Gucci GRAMMY logo.
Both analog watch models – which qualify as being Swiss-made - feature 42mm stainless-steel cases. One has a sun-brushed finish and a black dial; the other a black PVD finish and a dark yellow dial. The minimalist dials — with the ‘Gucci’ logo at 12 o’clock — reveal a circular-grained surface specially designed to resemble the grooves on a vinyl record.
Turn the watch over and the caseback is engraved with both the Gucci and Grammy logos. The watch is powered by a Swiss Ronda quartz movement.
The watches are priced at $1,095 for the steel case/black dial version and $1,195 for the PVD case/yellow dial.
In addition to their special edition watch collection, the partnership between Gucci Timepieces & Jewelry and The Recording Academy also includes the Grammy Camp Initiative.
Gucci Timepieces & Jewelry will choose 10 young musicians who will be given the chance to attend the camp’s sessions in New York and Los Angeles during summer 2013. Students will meet with industry professionals, write new music, visit recording studios and performance spaces, and attend a range of workshops. The summer activities will culminate with a concert celebrating the completion of their experience.
